Just when you think you are up to date on all the latest and great in Dubai, a new beachfront appears in town. La Mer South in Jumeira has just opened its waterfront to the public and once again Dubai does not disappoint.
The boys were off from school on Sunday so we thought we would seize the opportunity to check out this new development without all the weekend crowds. I wasn't quite sure where it was located so I plugged Dubai zoo into the GPS and instead of turning right into the zoo, I turned left and La Mer was right there. We weren't sure what to expect but were happily surprised once we arrived. Not to mislead you, it is very much under construction, but La Mer is still worth a visit. My boys were very excited to see the construction of huge waterslides for a new waterpark looking right out onto the sea.
The path to the beach is lined with festive washroom cabins, fun street signs, boats and surfboards, play areas for children, and lots of industrial lightbulbs that I'm sure look fantastic at night.
The Sea Hammocks
A big highlight was finding the adjustable hammocks swinging over the sea. The water was crystal clear and loads of fish were swimming underneath. Boys being their usual self-turned swinging in a hammock into a game, "who could hold themselves upside down in the hammock the longest without falling into the water :-)" Lucky for them the water is beautifully warm so it's not a real punishment to take the plunge. There are only a few hammocks so arrive early to guarantee a try.
The Bucket Showers
The fun continued as we were packing up to leave. The pathway that runs alongside the beach is lined with super fun bucket showers. The boys spent as much time there goofing around as in the water. What more fun could three boys have than dumping buckets of water on each other's head. Even the adults were laughing while rinsing off. Oh Dubai, you do like to make sure people have a good time.
Restaurants and Stores
From what we saw and were told, there are only a handful of restaurants open at the moment. Over the next two months many more are to open their doors. At the moment, if you want a bite to eat or a coffee, there are a few restaurants open. Ice cream was the icing on the cake for us at the end of our fun morning.
Although it is still very much under construction, La Mer was a fun morning out. With kids, friends, or solo, its worth a visit. It just feels happy there. I can't wait to go back in the evening to see it all lit up!
And if you get tired of the water, you can take a stroll and look at all the hip street art on the restaurant and shop walls. Love it!
